Priya is a highly experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist with over 25 years of dedicated service in the field. She graduated from Christian Medical College, Vellore, India in 1999, and has since worked in various hospitals and special needs centres in India, Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Throughout her career, Priya has primarily focused on paediatric rehabilitation, addressing a wide range of developmental challenges. She has extensive expertise in working with children with ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, retained primitive reflexes, learning disabilities, sensory processing disorder, sensory integration difficulties, handwriting difficulties, Down syndrome, and other congenital and chromosomal conditions.
With a special interest in crafting low-cost adaptations and innovations for special needs, Priya is particularly passionate about improving handwriting skills.
Priya holds certifications in Ayres Sensory Integration from CLASI, USA and Rhythmic Movement Training (RMT) from RMTi, USA. Additionally, she is proficient in generating Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and curriculum framing for children with special needs.
She has undergone extensive training in Occupational Therapy in Oncology Rehabilitation – Lymphedema Management, PETO’s Conductive Education, Applied Behaviour Analysis, Assistive Technology, Makaton, 4 Blocks of Literacy, Letterland, Handwriting, Clicker-7, and Animal Assisted Therapy to name a few. She is also trained in using various standardised assessments in Occupational Therapy, as well as in ADOS-2 and yearns to be constant learner.
In 2015, Priya was a shortlisted finalist and recipient of the certificate for “Outstanding Occupational Therapist” awarded by Her Royal Highness Princess Haya at the 5th cycle of the Princess Haya Awards for Special Education (PHASE).
Priya is passionate about continuous learning and education, having served as an Assistant Professor at the College of Occupational Therapy, Trivandrum, India, where she taught undergraduate students for two years.
She believes strongly in the importance of educating and training parents and caregivers to ensure therapy carryover therapy at home. To support this mission, she conducts periodic parent training sessions and shares insights on her blog (priya-the-ot.blogspot.com).
Fluent in English, Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi, Priya offers her services in all these languages, making her a versatile and accessible resource for families.
