Zakiya holds Bachelors and a Masters degrees in Occupational Therapy and has over six years of experience working with children of all ages, from newborns through adolescents and adults. She has worked in various settings, including hospitals, pre-school and elementary schools, home-based therapy, and several private out-patient treatment clinics in the UAE, India, and the USA.
She has trained in Neurodevelopmental Techniques (NDT), Sensory Integration (SI), Kinesiotaping, The Listening Program, and the Alert Program.
She uses a combination of assessment tools and approaches in evaluations and therapy, custom tailoring the child’s plan based on their individual needs.
She provides individual and group therapy to children with a range of diagnoses, including Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Cerebral Palsy (CP), developmental delay, Down Syndrome, VATER syndrome, handwriting difficulties, behavior issues, stroke and orthopedic impairments like spina bifida, juvenile RA.
Zakiya’s approach is holistic during her evaluation and treatment sessions. She stresses working with the family to achieve a child’s goals, helping the child reach their highest potential, and teaching families to incorporate sensory and motor activities in everyday life to enhance their children’s development.
Zakiya is fluent in English, Hindi and Marathi and she can offer therapeutic support in all three languages.
